The Best Sarasota Golf: Longboat Key Club, Kingsway Country Club & More!

Whether you are just starting to consider a home in Longboat Key Club or you have been living here for a long time, there is one feature of the community that you surely have not missed: The golf courses. Longboat Key Club was named in Golf Digest as one of the Best Places to Play, and that designation is taken seriously! There are two courses that you’ll want to know about. The Harbourside Golf Course runs along the Bay side of Longboat Key, and the Islandside Golf Course is on the Gulf of Mexico side. There are also driving ranges for when you need some practice and Spike ‘n Tees, a restaurant that offers light fare and cocktails. If you’re looking for equipment or apparel, you’ll want to visit the Pro Shops, where you’ll be able to find anything you need to improve your game.

While you can certainly while away hours at the golf courses in Longboat Key Club, you will probably also want other options in the surrounding areas. Here are some of the best Sarasota golf courses for you to consider:

WATERLEFE GOLF AND RIVER CLUB

Located on the scenic Manatee River in Bradenton, Waterlefe Golf and River Club is a members-only club offers a gorgeous Sarasota golf course within a half-hour drive. Golf course architect Ted McAnlis designed several of the holes, and five are located right on the river for a relaxing, beautiful view. The 18-hole course is set out in a competitive layout with holes that offer a challenge for golfers of different abilities. When you’re not in the middle of a round, you can take advantage of the aqua range, pro shop, putting green, pro shop, grill room, beverage cart and lessons that are offered by PGA professionals.

KINGSWAY COUNTRY CLUB

If you don’t mind traveling about an hour south-east of your Longboat Key Club home, you will want to check out the Kingsway Country Club, located in Lake Suzy, a community situated between the towns of Arcadia and Port Charlotte. The par 72, 18-hole golf course was modernized and rebuilt by Ron Garl after Hurricane Charley in 2004, and was designed to be easily walkable, though you could certainly take a golf course. The club offers a flexible “pay as you play” membership for those who plan on playing a limited number of rounds, so that’s worth inquiring about. In addition to golf, some of the amenities at Kingsway include tennis courts, practice facilities, a clubhouse and a venue for weddings and other special events.

HERON CREEK GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

If you are looking for a prestigious club in southern Sarasota County, you might do well to consider Heron Creek, located in North Port. Designed by Arthur Hills, the club consists of 27 holes of golf on three courses. One unique aspect of this club is the usage of elevation to provide a different sort of experience than you often encounter in Florida. Amenities include several dining options, tennis courts, a golf learning center, a clubhouse and a pro shop.
Myakka Pines Golf Club  Located in Englewood, Myakka Pines is a semi-private golf facility that offers three courses, each consisting of nine holes. Of the 27 holes on the property, 21 are located on the water. You’ll also notice that there are no houses on the property, which makes the course more walkable than some others in the region. The courses were designed by Lane Marshall and feature some good elevation and movement. There is also a large game-improvement area that consists of a chipping green, a putting green, driving range and practice bunker.
