The Vue on Sarasota Bay: Things To Do in Downtown Sarasota

If you are waiting for your home at The Vue to be ready, you are probably anticipating your move to Sarasota with with excitement. Whether you’ve lived in the downtown Sarasota area for years or you are new to town, living in the heart of the city will open your eyes to a lot of opportunities for entertainment, dining, shopping and more! Here are some of the places that you’ll be able to go with ease, either using your own two feet, a bicycle or a very short drive in the car. Here’s a list of our favorite things to do in Downtown Sarasota.

GO OUT FOR DINNER (OR LUNCH OR BREAKFAST)

Your location at The Vue, Sarasota makes it simple and easy to enjoy a meal out. There are several restaurants within walking distance, though if you were to go out during the evening hours in the summer, keeping an eye on the sky or driving might be prudent so you don’t get caught in a sudden downpour! CasAntica, an Italian eatery, is located on North Palm Avenue. Dine indoors or out and enjoy the calamari, the house insalata, linguini pescatore, or perhaps the veal scallopine. Looking for Italian with a more casual feel (and price)? You won’t want to miss Cafe Amalfi on North Tamiami Trail, which offers a nice variety of Italian dishes, from lasagna to pizza. Looking for some fresh, local food with a twist? The Bijou Cafe is on 1st Street at Pineapple Avenue, right down the street from The Vue. The menu changes with the seasons, so you’ll want to go back often. Finally, if you’re in the mood for Mexican or Southwest American cuisine, you won’t want to forget about Two Senoritas Restaurant on Main Street. The fresh salsa and guacamole alone are worth the walk or drive!

GET SOME FRESH AIR

No matter what the season, living at The Vue gives you every opportunity to get out and soak up the sunshine that Sarasota is so famous for! Although you’re in the midst of a bustling city, you’ll find a wide range of places to go in order to spend some time in nature. Island Park is close enough to bike to within a few minutes, and offers sidewalks and lots of green areas for walking, rollerblading or picnicking.

There are also fountains and playgrounds for children to enjoy, if you have your own kids or grandkids along. If your idea of fresh air is balmy and smells like the ocean, then you’re in luck: Lido Beach is just a short drive away. Just a few miles to the south is Siesta Key Beach, as well. Both of these are public beaches that are known for their soft, white sand and calm surf that is perfect for wading or swimming. If you’d like to wander around through gardens and botanical areas, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens are under a mile away. The Ringling Museum of Art is another attraction that offers beautiful grounds, including gardens and scenic overlooks.

SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP

Sarasota is home to a huge selection of boutiques, shops and malls. St. Armand’s Circle, a world-renowned shopping and dining district, is just a short drive over the John Ringling Causeway. Here, you can pick up treasures from the Far East, high-quality shoes, local delicacies and so much more. Head over toward Main Street to take advantage of the boutiques in that area, from Main Street Traders, to Brooks Brothers, Picobello, Jackie Z Style, and much more. You can also get in the car and drive over to one of the two Westfield malls in town, Westfield Southgate and Westfield Sarasota. In addition, you’ll find strip malls and large chain stores, from Walmart to Booksamillion.
